FAQ's
How do I know if my tank is full?
Every tank is different, and how long it lasts depends on usage. Manufacturers typically recommend emptying septic tanks annually under “normal” use—this generally applies to a household of four. If you’re unsure, contact us for advice or schedule a check-up.
Do you cover my area?
We serve a wide area in Somerset & North Devon, most of which is listed on our website. If you’re uncertain, simply fill out our enquiry form, and we’ll confirm coverage for your location.
Can I book with my neighbours for a discount?
Yes, group bookings with one or two neighbours in the same area can qualify for further discounts. Let us know when scheduling your service.
What size lorries do you use?
We operate 18-tonne, 4-wheel lorries, which are compact and comparable in size to small oil delivery trucks or road sweepers. If you think access might be challenging, please let us know when booking.
What if the only access to my tank is via a field?
Tanks in fields can only be accessed during dry, firm conditions, typically in summer. Fields must not be in crop, and grass fields are ideal. Plan ahead to avoid overfilling issues during winter months when access may be restricted.
How close to the tank do your lorries need to be?
We aim to park as close as possible on a hardstanding surface. Most tanks are within 30–40 meters of access, and we carry up to 85 meters of hose. However, there may be an additional charge for extended hose use, which will be discussed during booking.
Are there special chemicals I should use in my system?
Septic tanks rely on natural bacteria to function. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach, as they can disrupt this process. Small amounts are acceptable occasionally. For washing, use liquid non-bio detergents, which help prevent drain blockages.
Are you fully certified?
Yes, we are fully licensed and insured. We are a registered waste carrier with the Environment Agency and authorised to use local sewage treatment works. You can trust us for professional and compliant services.
Do I need to be home during the service?
No, as long as we can access the tank’s location, we can complete the service and leave a note with the bill and any updates on the tank’s condition. Payment can be made within 7 days.
What happens to the waste after you remove it?
All waste is taken to a local Wessex Water sewage treatment works. They test the waste for safety and charge us for disposal. From there, it is processed alongside other sewage entering the facility.
Can I join a reminder list for future services?
Absolutely! We can add you to our system to remind you when your tank is due. We’ll contact you to arrange a convenient time and offer a 5% discount as a thank-you for repeat bookings.
Do you clear blockages?
Yes. If your system is privately owned, we can clear blockages using rods or the lorry’s suction equipment during a tank emptying service at no additional cost. If your tank isn’t due for emptying, we can still assist with rodding to clear your drains.
What types of systems do you empty?
- Septic tanks
- Treatment plants
- Cesspits
- Cesspools
- Holding tanks
Do you service treatment plants?
We are working toward offering full servicing for treatment plants at a highly discounted rate, as travel costs will be eliminated if done during an emptying visit.
Is having a septic tank more cost-effective than being on the mains?
In most cases, yes. If you empty your tank annually (or twice a year), it is often cheaper than mains sewage. For example, unmetered sewage rates for a Band D property in Taunton are around £600 annually, while water costs an additional £550. These rates are expected to rise by 25% over the next 5 years. Regular maintenance and emptying help reduce long-term costs for upgrades and repairs.
